THe Story

Meet Alan

Born in Iowa, raised in Texas, sewed my oats around the world serving in the U.S. Air Force.  24 years in the military and then several in ministry as a student pastor, elder, and biblical counselor.

Wanting to practice my hobby full-time while still available to do counseling, I started the Silverback Workshop so I can make custom furniture and décor for my own home and yours.

Send me what you've been pinning, saving, or clipping and I'll make it happen for you.  I love making big pieces and smaller decorative items.  We can work on wood, stain, and paint together to make your dream piece become a reality.

Why silverback?

Since childhood I have had a fascination with primates, gorillas in particular.  Like many in the animal kingdom, they are both beautiful and powerful.  I've seen every gorilla movie there is and loved every one.  In the military we used to call the more mature and experienced NCOs (active and retired) the "silverbacks" as a sign of respect.

Further, our hope is to also raise awareness of the plight of the gorillas in central Africa.  After years of wars decimating their habitats and poachers wiping out entire families, the mountain gorillas are critically endangered.

So the name and logo pay homage to these majestic apes and a percentage of our profits go directly to two charitable organizations that are "near and dear" to Silverback.
